Lost and Found

I was doing some massive file maintenance on my hard drives (I got 6 of them) when I came across a treasure trove of old W.I.P files that seem to have been abandoned and forgotten about.  Looks like I spent a reasonable amount of time on them so I figured I might as well post a few.

All of them were created in 3ds max using mental ray with the exception for the last one. That one I believe I was messing around with V-Ray on a friend's computer using a plug-in  called Greeble.  I had the most fun with it as it was a relaxed mix of speed modeling and tweaking a few of V-Rays lights and settings.  V-Ray makes everything easy and is a very awesome renderer. They should rename it the Awesome-ray

WIP

While I'm at it, I decided to post a work in progress. This was a teaser for my website I did a while back, but I have yet to finish it; mostly because I lost a large portion of what I worked on due to a few corrupted files... Listen, when they say back up your work, they mean back up your work on like 6 different hard drives and put two of them in a fireproof/waterproof safe. Okay you don't have to get that crazy with your set up, but you see my point. I got about 2.5 TB worth of data that I have to back up every month and I don't use raid (I can never trust those setups). I heard last quarter a student lost all his work because his only hard drive crashed. It's scary thing to happen when you're close to graduating.

Zolly

Here's a quick clip I did for my 3D camera techniques class simulating a Zolly Shot. Lighting and Texturing done by me.  Models suplied by www.3drender.com - CG Lighting Challenge #2.

3Drender.com is part of the main gig for the CG Lighting Challenges they do on CGtalk. Its moderated by Jeremy Birn who authored a nifty little textbook. I got both the textbook and training DVD. I recommend participating in those challenges to help sharpen your lighting skills if you ever get the chance. and go get the Training DVD, its worth the money if your wanting to learn how to light in Maya.

Warning:Error:Fail

A while ago I added a plug-in called Ultimate Google Analytics so I could track how many visits I've been getting. I think I was editing the code and forgot to activate it. That was about 2 months ago. Well today I realized why I wasn't getting any new traffic. So I went and finally activated it. Next thing I knew I get this: "Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent to bla bla bla bla". I essentially mucked up the whole site and ended up getting locked out.  I was unable to log back in and fix it; in fact the site basically became inaccessible.  After a quick Google search I found a workaround. Wordpress FAQ had the solution.

"How do I solve the “Headers already sent” warning problem?

Well after contacting  my friend who owns the server, we managed to track down the .php file and do some quick fixing. Everything seems to be back to normal now.

So did I learn my lesson about editing  the code of  Wordpress plug-ins? Heh, nope.

The Three Towers And Then Some

I'm beginning to like digital painting. You feel more flexible and less constrained than if you did it traditionally. There's no clean up required and you get the added bonus of an undo button =p

Tower of the Gods old

FYI that's a lake and three gigantic towers.

I was testing out a new abstract painting technique I learned last week. It allows you to visualize landscapes you normally wouldn't create. You get a bunch of random photos, desaturate the color, and make a collage using different blending modes in Photoshop. Your supposed to stare at it till you see a possible idea. Sounds trippy, but it works.

And for extra,  I added my "Other" latest work in progress

Systems Check

It's the first of the month, that means Rabbit Rabbit!

______________________________________________

I'm slowly starting to migrate to this new server.  Squarespace.com hosting was getting annoying.

Edit* I lost access to my site when I tried to remap the domain. It thought it was the new domain when it really wasn't.  So I had to delete and start over =(
